Happy New Year!

We wish you all the best for 2019.
As for us, we'd like a bit of rain.  Not a flood.
 But some gentle falling rain.

This shows how our year ended.
Dubbo 31/12/18 Looking south.
A huge dust cloud blew in late afternoon.
Looking west
On a ferocious wind.
(We used up our nervous energy then, so we
didn't even notice the fireworks at midnight...BOL!)

Still here...

we're still the same.  Doin' the same things--only earlier--now that the HOT weather has hit.

Chased one young 'roo, saw a snake at the river for the first time at the river.  As we were in the car leaving, SHE was happy.  First one we've seen.  In Oz, unless you find a python-type snake, you can be sure it is venomous and dangerous.

We had a great Christmas and got LOTS of TREATS.

Hope you get a chuckle out of this:

Best wishes for the New Year!

Oh, and thanks for the unexpected, but welcome cards!

Friday Nature/Monday Mischief?

SPRING!
The time of new life, flowers, blooming trees...…...and grass seeds.

Dui, Roxy and Bella in front

A week ago, Dui started the ear scratching and head tilt.  So off we went to the Vet.  Even with two of us holding him down, he wouldn't let Dr Mervyn look in his ears.  Next day, Friday, he had to go in to be sedated for an examination.

Whatever, had been in his ears was gone, but left him with both eardrums perforated!  We suspect a grass seed as that is the usual cause at this time of year.  We left with three kinds of medication and a bill of $554.

All week SHE has been sneaking up on Dui to put in the ear drops.  He was good about the tablets, though.  Poor Dui has spent the week hiding from HER.

Then last Friday, during a treat to the river, Roxy spotted a duck that had-to-be-chased.  Off she raced, disappearing into the high grass.  The duck went over the fence, and Roxy came back, shaking her head violently.

Off to see Dr Mervyn again.  He could see the grass seed in her ear. He suggested sedation again, and then we decided he might try removing it on the spot.  Roxy was so good, laying still as he pushed the light and alligator clips into her ear as he removed a long, wicked-looking thing.  Dr Mervyn look amazed and said, 'she's the first dog that has ever allowed me to do that!'

No more running free.  We'll be doing lead walks until seed season is finished or the grass is mowed.  Bella is allowed to run free, but she doesn't go into the grass.....we hope...not going for a Trifecta this Friday.

Visitors

Look who came to visit us.....well....not us specifically, but Dubbo.
They came to experience the effects of the drought.
AND brought RAIN!

Of course, they've been here for a few weeks, gracing several businesses and residences.

BOL!
And no, we didn't go.  We don't like crowds
AND there was thunder, lightning and wind;
So we had to sit close to HER incase SHE was
Frightened.

Just checkin' in

Old photo, but still us.....
Windows 10 (3D Paint specifically) has completely %#@#&* up our picture file.  And it will no longer import pictures from our camera.

We've had lots of comments asking how we are.....and we're well.

Had a cold winter with lots of frosty mornings.

We were incarcerated at the kennels for nearly all of July while SHE went to Virginia.

Are having a drought....which means the 'roos and wallabies have moved to our side of the river.

Roxy and Dui have lost off-lead privileges because they disappeared on a 'roo hunt for half an hour
AND Roxy returned wearing  Essence of Dead Animal.

New feral cats have moved into the 'hood.  They run around in OUR garden at night, and drive us nuts.  We have pawprints on the car.

SHE didn't latch the gate properly and we went cat hunting.  Dui wouldn't relinquish his Freedom no matter how much SHE screamed 'who wants cheese', waved and whistled.  Honestly, SHE was embarrassing, we didn't want to be associated with HER.

Nothing new or earth-shattering happening here.  Spring has arrived with lots of flowering plants and even a little bit of rain.

So that's us.

Have a great weekend and we hope some cooler Autumn temps are heading your way.

A Gauntlet of Cats.....

Because it's dark in the mornings, we are now going for
Street Light Walks.
It also means the cats of the 'hood
are still on the prowl.
We call the cul-de-sac end of our street
the Gauntlet of Cats.
There are always felines in front yards
on both sides.....
and we have to stay close to HER with our
retractable leads LOCKED so we can't lunge.

After Marmalade, the big ginger tom, moved out
most of the cats now are black with a splash of white.
SHE doesn't see them in the dark--we DO!
But the past few weeks there has been a new
kitty.  We call him Ghost Kitty.
This is an Identikit picture we made of him.

We don't know where Ghost Kitty lives because he is always in a different front yard!
Sometimes he will flatten himself when we pass, but
sometimes he rears up and hisses at us!
Yesterday, morning he was gone.
We didn't see him anywhere....
Then Dui STOPPED and stared behind us.
Ghost Kitty was walking down the street BEHIND us!

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss!

Yes, it is March 2nd here.  Dr Seuss Day.
As a former Infants teacher, Dr Seuss books were  a favourite
'after lunch' read.
In fact, some of them, SHE can recite!
HER favourites are:

But Dr Seuss had a varied career--not just the author of children's books.  Unbeknownst to most people (including us) he was a political cartoonist during WWII.
Happy Birthday, Dr Seuss!

Monday Mischief Mystery

Mischief #1 the Mystery.
Bella is a slow eater.
It was chicken leg night.
The kibble had been eaten and everyone ran off to
devour the raw chicken legs.
SHE walked into the study and found Bella staring at
Dui, who was just tucking into a chicken leg.
Did he steal hers?   Did she lose hers? He usually eats his quickly.
A mystery.

Mischief #2...who is to blame?
This afternoon SHE had to make a quick trip to the
Post Office.
She just shut the back door to keep the dogs inside.
Returning about 10 minutes later, SHE found two
scotties across the road looking for the
Front Yard cats!
They must have been out back when SHE left!
(Roxy missed out on the adventure because she was locked inside.)

Tails from the River

We're back to our routine of only visiting the river
on the weekends.
It has been cooler lately, so we can get in
a RUN mid-mornings, near the river,
but cannot get IN the river.
That means we don't play with other dogs during the week,
so we LOVE the weekends.
This past week, there has been a mob of 'roos
that stare at us...from the OTHER side of the river.
'Roos don't play fairly.  We ignore them.
The big News is Kelly is healing well, and jumped on
the ute by herself one day.
Her leg is still being re-bandaged every other day, is
healing, but she can't go near the water.

Also, there is a new girl.  Flash and Buddy have a new sister--
their other sister, Ebony, went to the Bridge a few months ago, cancer.
Flash no longer comes to the river, he works from home now.

This is Demi.
She is nine years old and her peeps are moving to Thailand
for work.  She was an only dog and is just learning how
to play.

But she's really getting into our wild games.
So that sums up our week.  Hope you had a great week, too.
Oh, and Dui's happy Kelly's ute is back, too.

Up in the mornin'.........

Out on the job......
Barkin' like the devil at our prey......
But that lucky ol' sun....
Ain't even getting up until after 6:30 a.m.

Dreadlocks--1

Scottie skirt--0

After a summer of river, sand, clay and burrs, Bella's dreadlocks
became too much!  She is the first of 10 scotties that had to have
a crewcut.

Happy Valentine's Day!

LOOK!  My Ernie didn't forget me!

He sent me a fabulous Valentine card.

And.......a LOTTA love--
not just a little love.
Thank you, Ernie.  I love you!
Hope everyone has a fantastic day.

Monday Mischief.--even though...

it's Tuesday here.
And yes, there is a reason Dui is featured.
Dui has had a VERY disturbed morning.
Firstly, a huge truck arrived to put 8-tonnes of
gravel base on the section of the yard we're having
crushed granite put down.
The driver had to wait to find out what was happening.
Dui was frantic, barking and screaming his disapproval.
Then the porcine Jack Russell from next door who
belongs to the Mysterious Ray, went walkabout. (more like waddleabout)
She walked from garden to garden, inciting him
to further screaming.
Finally, the man with the 8-tonne load left
mumbling something about having his tyres detailed.
SHE took us for a run--not to be confused with
the early morning walk--to tire Dui out.
On returning, there was a huge pile of (SHE hopes)
crushed granite blocking the driveway, making it
necessary to park on the street.
Dui was beside himself.  He tried to launch himself
out of the car, but was caught by his ear.
Finally, all leads on, dogs could be brought inside the gate.
Then the postman came...another bout of wild barking.
At the moment there is calm, the porky JR is next door
barking non-stop, and Dui is resting.
There may be a return of the digger this afternoon to spread the granite.

HER Story....The Passport

The time had come to update the passports.
(SHE is a dual citizen so needs two.)

Both expire about the same time.
Photos were taken last July and one renewed.
As there was no rush to get them, the other put off.

SHE arrived at the Post Office, with old passport, photos, application and of course, money.
Not having read the small print, missed the
'photos older than 6 months cannot be used as ID.'
The cut off date was two weeks ago.
As the photos were not much different from the 10-year-old
expired passport photo,  SHE wasn't worried.
However....
SHE had to have new photos taken because they were 2 weeks over the 6 month limit, to be put on the  new 10-year passport!
Does anyone else see the craziness?
The new photos look just like the 6-month-two-week old photos
except for winter vs summer clothing and the amused look.

When cats see dogs they RUN for cover,
or flatten out and pretend they aren't there.
Everyone knows that. Once we tree'd a cat.
But
lately, we have a stalking cat.
It runs along behind us, hiding behind trees
and following us through front yards
no matter how much we TELL it to stop.
Then the other day, while we were barking trying to explain
the rules to a kitten, it just lay down outside our reach, rolled
on its back, waved its paws in the air and meowed!!!
Something strange is happening around the 'hood.

Senior Moments

SHE's been having senior moments, but this afternoon takes the cake!

The recycle bin goes out tonight.  There was space, so SHE decided to put some old boxes in.
One was the Christmas box My Ernie sent us.
It still had the wrapping paper and bubble wrap in it,
So SHE pulled the paper out
and found
a small wrapped package.
It has been in the bottom of the box for a MONTH!
SHE thought, from the feel, that it was a bandana
BUT was very surprised to find:
scottie pins and magnets for HERSELF!
Would you believe it?
A whole MONTH after Christmas!
Ernie must have wondered what happened to that part of the present!

This senior moment stuff is a worry!

Shamelessly borrowed from another meme.

Scottie Quirks...

Dui whinges (whines, cries) a lot.
When we walk past barking fences, he cries.
Sometimes at night, he just cries.
He also occasionally just gives a shrill bark...one that makes HER nearly hit the roof.
He 'arroooos' when frustrated.
Dui does not come or allow himself to be caught until he sees what's going to happen.  However, when tricked and caught, he just gives in and accepts whatever...
He sleeps in doorways, and doesn't move for the vacuum.
Dui is the only who wears a collar at night, yet every morning when the other two are having their collars put on,
he runs and hides.

Bella's quirks involve water.  If near the river, she'll head for the water.  She will not leave until all humans--all chances of someone throwing rocks for her have disappeared.  If there is a fisherman, she will stay.  Otherwise, she doesn't go near other people.

In the car, she always sits on the floor squished
between the driver's seat and back seats.
She has to be last.
Always way behind us when free, or on the lead.
(We think she's ashamed to be seen with us. She's the only one with papers.)
This means she arrives at sniffing places after the others, then does her anvil act while we wait.
However, after going to the river, she will walk into the laundry room to be dunked, so she can go inside.
And she loves to watch television--anything with animals.

We hope you enjoy our quirkiness,  We've enjoyed your quirks, too.

Quirks....

SHE says we've got quirks.
(We don't think that's complimentary.)

I Roxy, am afraid dislike cleaning implements:  broom, mop, duster, vacula...etc.
Whenever SHE's wielding one of these, I run!
I also hate loud, or sudden noises.
I'm afraid of stormwater drains except the ones
in front of our house.  They're safe and don't suck  you in.
But the others I give a wide berth.
I'm known as Me-First Roxy, because I always have to
be first.  I try to pre-empt whatever SHE's trying to do
and usually get told to get out of the way.
I am a talker....wooing when excited or to let HER know
when SHE's letting the side down.

Do you have quirks?

Sunday

Sunday morning started out SLOW!

Hurry UP!  Time's a-wastin'.
Finally, we got on our way and look who was at the river!
Kelly and Ron.....just look at them striding out on the track walk.

 Then down by the river.
Kelly has to stay on the lead and can't get her bandaged leg wet,
but she was just happy to be there.
 Even Flash showed up.
His family's ute was wrecked so he hasn't been coming.
We had loads of fun this morning.  There was a slight altercation between Tiger and Rex. Tiger had a scratch on his nose but it
was soon forgotten.
THEN
look what happened on the way home...

We stopped by the public bath.
Bella slipped her collar, but was tricked and carried
to the torture area.
The scotties had a full bath.
SHE had to pay $88 during the week to have the drain
unblocked again, after so much river mud, clay and sand went down the drain after the usual dunking.
Now we're home with 'Roo Chews'.

Thursday, January 11, 2018

Thankful Thursday

Poor Bella.....so sad.

We had thunderstorms during the week.
Bella doesn't like them.
She crawled up next to HER for comfort, but
SHE noticed that Bella smelled VERY doggy.
Though Bella always gets dunked....bottom half..after the river, it was the top half that was whiffy.
So poor Bella had to have an all-over bath.
Dui and I, Roxy, are thankful it wasn't us!

Last week at the river....

we were getting ready to go home, when a ute (utility truck) came up the track.
Speeding, actually.
SHE grabbed Dui, who loves to go with the
naughty dogs to chase trucks,
and Roxy who occasionally goes along as a spectator.
The naughty ones ran at the truck, and our
friend Kelly was with them. She doesn't usually chase things.
No one quite knows exactly what happen, but
Kelly was hit.
She screamed....a horrible sound!
The driver didn't even stop until he got up near
our group, then said oh was that a dog I hit?
He wasn't very caring, surprising as he had two dogs on the back of his truck.
Anyway, poor Kelly managed to get back to her ute,
blood pouring out of her mouth and eyes.
She didn't look good.
Ron, her owner, who will be 90 next week, though distraught
went straight to the Vet.
We followed a bit later,
Kelly was on the truck by herself.
So SHE pulled up and cuddled Kelly until Ron came out to get her.
Poor Kelly was a mess.
SHE thought it was the last time we'd see Kelly.

Her jaw was broken in three places, and she was badly concussed
with bleeding on the brain.
The Vet managed to bolt the hinges of the jaw and bring the two sides together in the front aligning her teeth before wiring the jaw together.  She showed no signs of brain damage.
Monday, she was allowed home.  She has to be handfed but actually looks okay.

Kelly today.

Her right leg has been smashed and is the worst of her problems now.  It'll be awhile before she's back at the river.
We're so glad that Old Ron still has his Mate.

Question...and solution!

Do your peeps hog the bed?
Do they say 'not enough room'?
Do they disturb you at night with their tossing and turning?

May we suggest one of these 12-foot beds?

Just an idea....

A Stinkin' HOT Weekend....

When there is a forecast of 100°F+ (41°C) for the weekend,
and it'll be a day of Aircon hibernation,
this is how we start our day......

 Check out Dui's teeth....
Because Dui and Roxy chase Coco, Ruby has decided it's her job to bark constantly
at Dui.  Every once in awhile, he turns to snap at her.  Ruby is actually a coward.

Bella just waits for someone to come play the rock game.
Actually it's not much different to any other day.
Have a great weekend, keep warm......or cool depending on your hemisphere.
