The time had come to update the passports.
(SHE is a dual citizen so needs two.)
Both expire about the same time.
Photos were taken last July and one renewed.
As there was no rush to get them, the other put off.
SHE arrived at the Post Office, with old passport, photos, application and of course, money.
Not having read the small print, missed the
'photos older than 6 months cannot be used as ID.'
The cut off date was two weeks ago.
As the photos were not much different from the 10-year-old
expired passport photo, SHE wasn't worried.
However....
SHE had to have new photos taken because they were 2 weeks over the 6 month limit, to be put on the new 10-year passport!
Does anyone else see the craziness?
The new photos look just like the 6-month-two-week old photos
except for winter vs summer clothing and the amused look.
We don't suppose it would make HER feel better to hear Gail's even more egregious passport photo refusal story? Oh well, here goes. Here you have to get the photo signed and dated by a witness of good standing. A friend of Gail's duly obliged. It was July. A couple of days later, Gail went to the post office. Photo was rejected as out of date. The friend had made a mistake with the date, putting it a 6 (June) not 7 (July). So Gail was told the photo was more than 30 days old and so invalid...
ReplyDeleteCrazy!
ReplyDeleteAt least your momma HAS a passport.
that is CRAZY! as if we would look much older within 2 weeks... all blogville moms are 29 furever so efurry photo is ok :O)))
ReplyDeleteDat don't make no sense at all... a fuss ovfur 2 weeks when da passport lasts 10 years?? Reedikulus!
ReplyDeleteRules is Rules.....but they don't always make sense, especially when peeps make them up, like all those 'not fur pups' rules about certain foodables!

Ah, bureaucracy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a silly rule especially since the passport is good for 10 years! We bet her picture will look different 5 years from now but the passport will still be valid.
ReplyDeleteGovernment work is the province of the tiny-brained folk. It's the same everywhere. My peep had to work for government for 18 months (not by choice). You should have seen the panic when the office ran out of forms to request more forms!
ReplyDeleteWhy you could have turned into a zombie in those two weeks!

Lets all say on the count of 3, 1 2 3................CRAZY RED TAPE
ReplyDeleteMy word. I'm surprised SHE didn't put on HER stern teacher face to the dummies at the Post Office.
Hugs Madi and mom
Rules stink!!! We don't like rules. Mom says here you have to be so careful to read everything when you need to renew your driver's license, never mind your passport. So much rigamarole for a piece of paper:)

Government in action. Waste more time, cost more money and get the same results.
