Part 3...

And now for something different.

But first.... for Kismet. Three of the puppies died.....one completely rejected by the mother, two were just weak.  Though the Vet prescribed supplemental feedings, he said they just didn't feel like 'gristly sausages' so they probably wouldn't survive.  They didn't.

But the remaining four went to happy forever homes.
(And SHE learned to let others breed and rear puppies.)
After Kelly and Bruis went to the bridge way too early,
SHE decided on something completely different.
The thought of a No Dog home just wasn't in the equation.
(She'd bought her first house by now.)
Enter
Fiona and Emily

 Yes, Fiona--the Irish Wolfhound
The typical huge, gentle wolfhound.
The scotties  thought they were big dogs,
Fiona thought she was a lapdog.
The ribbon is from the groomer.
She was such a sweet girl.

Emily, was a deerhound X....much more X than deer.
(Can't find a photo at the moment)
She looked like a black, prick-eared greyhound.
Emily was named after a friend's goat.  The name was not
popular at the time for little girls.
Fiona came with her name.
Sadly, large dogs do not have long lifespans, and their allotted time on Earth went by all too quickly.

Scottie FIVE made a brief appearance at this time.
One day when SHE went to collect Fiona from the groomer,
there was a little male scottie, Geordie,  brought in for  grooming and never picked up.
SHE payed his grooming bill and he joined the household.
He was hit by a car a very short time  afterwards, while SHE was at work.
As the fences were intact, no holes or other escape routes, probably someone let him out.....kids did walk past going to school.

However, it did get her thinking about scotties again after an
eight-year break.

  1. Wow! A wolf hound is a HUGE difference from a Scottie.

  2. Those Irish wolfhounds are gorgeous dogs, but yes sadly, they don't live very long. We are really enjoying this trip through the dogs of the past.

P.S. We got about 4 inches of rain, not as bad as southwest Missouri where they truly were inundated. But Mom says we got more than enough for her liking.

  3. Big dogs require big amounts of food which requires big deep pockets. Gorgeous but Lee will stick with Scots.
Yep we got three inches of rain in under an hour. Our basement and garage stayed dry but our old coal cellar under our porch took some water happens about every seven years but Lee ordered a wet vac today and it will probably sit for seven years.

  4. WE have a friend that has Scottish Deerhounds and Irish Wolfhounds. Sweet sweet dogs but the size freaks Mabel out. Years ago Hazel went to puppy class with a deerhound and although he grew huge they always loved to see each other

  5. We love these stories. Every pet owner has a lot of heartbreak to go along with the good memories. We love meeting all your parents' dogs.

  7. Howdy and howdy again. I nosed through your last few posts and loved the story of your previous doggies. I never knew you had some extra large doggies once. Mum says they are the best (apart from me of course hehe). Hope you are all well. No worries, and LOVE, Stella x

  10. We were surprised that you went from little dogs to a huge Wolfhound. We've heard the bigger pups don't live as long :-(

  16. I have really loved reading your posts about "your history." It is truly a story filled with great memories of happiness, joy, and of course heartbreak -- All of which has taken you to where you are now, and made HER heart and home what it is today.

  17. Ahh, now you're getting into the big dogs. They're the ones I love. It seems so wrong that the giant breeds have such short lives.
