Bella the Termite

We think Bella has stopped her destructive chewing. Nothing has been nibbled on for several weeks. Still, the bottom shelves are clear and items that may tempt her are put away. She started with shoes (expensive leather), paper things (library books), cardboard and then moved on to wood. It became her favourite.

Photo album in basket.
This is an early example of the move from cardboard to wood.

She managed to rip the dowling off in such a way that it could no longer be used.

Seen here admiring her adaptation of the dog brush
She ripped the wire side off.

And here she is, displaying her woodworking tools.
(Heh, heh, heh)
Good thing we love her!

  1. WOW!! Bella really put those Scottie chompers to use didn't she. We have a few pieces of altered furniture in our house too thanks to a young Lillybug.

  2. My boys, Guthrie and Conner also seem to have the termite gene. They have been working on the deck out the back. I guess I should be thankful they have confined their 'creativity' to out side.... so far. I hope they grow out of it soon.

  3. Oh dear. Amazing how the mind blots out the downside of puppyhood. We'll just have to get everyhting battened down before the arrival of the new nipper.

  4. When Monty was a puppy we finally gave him a wooden board of his very own and he carried it from room to room as he turned it into piles of splinters. It saved the furniture.

  5. I wasn't so much a furniture nibbler, but I loved a good stick or lava rock from the yard. I used to try to bring them in the house. If the Mr. wasn't paying attention, I'd have my own little nibblie for the night. However, after trips to the vettie on Saturdays and Sundays to deal with my upset tummies, SHE put her foot down. NO MORE STICKS OR ROCKS OR DIRT. And when SHE speaks in capital letters, everybody listens. I was gifted with multiple chew toys, like Kongs, Nylabone, ropes and the like. I think I destroyed 3 or 4 Kong Balls before my teeth all came in. The Mr. bought be a cute rubber chicken that was painted once and the paint made me sick. Be carefull what chew toys you buy and get good ones. I do love baskets and carboard still.

You never know when the urge to chew will hit and you just gotta go with it.

    sniffies,
    Bonnie

  10. We have a coffee table that Pippi chewed on but now I kind of like her little "puppy mark" on it.

  11. Duncan and Hamish have left their "marks" on the deck, our trees (apple was a favorite), the coffee table, the record cabinet and have "gutted" all of their soft toys. The nylabones and Kongs have held up well. I'm hoping now that they're a year old, they'll give up on the chewing. They're the first scotties we've had that have been such chewers - our others stuck pretty much to their toys. But we love them just the same :o)

  13. Oh Bella, we SALUTE you! When we first got here our humans had to use puppy pens all the time - not to pen us in, but to pen the furninture in away from us, he he he! We thought the whole house was a smorgasboard for us to nibble our way through so we totally understand where you're coming from! Now that we're all grown up at 20 months old we've left our chewing days behind us so the pens are no longer needed. Still, we enjoyed it at the time - snigger! Schnauzer snuggles - JD and Max.
