Colder Weather

It's been getting colder here. Next week Winter begins. We don't have central heating in our house. We have this little heater. As a rule, we scotties don't like the house too warm. But some evenings we need a bit of heat and we love lying next to this little heater.

Kendra likes to keep her bum warm on the back of it.

It's soooo relaxing, it makes us (yawn) and go to............zzzzzzzz

Telling Tails--Flashback Friday!

People sometimes think we're triplets--until they get close to see all the grey flecks in Kendra's (and my) fur. We do look alike in certain light. In fact, Alpha occasionally doesn't know which of us is which in dim light. So she looks at our tails.
Kendra's is thin and she never carries it up. If she's happy or alert, it's sort of half mast.
Bella has a very curly tail. It nearly folds onto her back at times. (She definitely needs a trim.)
And, of course, mine is beautiful. I carry mine in between. We used to think mine was very curly until Bella came.
Our tails are supposed to look like carrots. We're sort of a mixed bag of carrots.

Fishy Friday

We know there's no such thing as 'Fishy Friday' but it had a good sound to it, and we could tell you about another of our favourite foods.
It's Sardines in Oil. Our groomer (before Alph bought the clippers) suggested that as our skin was a bit dry, we should have some sardines in oil once a week. You gotta love someone like that who dispenses that kind of advice!

We just love them. Kendra and I used to share a tin on our dry food. It could be one of the reasons we had to go on the Weight Control kibble. Now with Bella, we each get a third. We can always smell the sardines when the tin is opened and become very excited. Kendra cries. Bella jumps up on Alpha's legs to try to hurry her up. I wait patiently.
Then we just put our heads down and eat. Kendra inhales hers, Bella is close behind, because Kendra tries to intimidate Bella to get hers, too. I eat slowly and growl if they get too close. It's the only time we lick our bowls for a long time. Then we exchange bowls to see if anydog was careless and left a smiggin of oil--not that that ever happens.
Sardines are divine!

Bella (Again)

This post was supposed to be all about Kendra, but the pictures wouldn't upload. After many unsuccessful tries, Bella succeeded in getting her picture on the blog. This photo was taken at the Million Paws Walk by a photographer with a GOOD camera. She thought Bella was soooo cute. (Boy, there is no livin' with her at the moment.) My picture turned out okay, too. I'll save that for another day.....you never know when you need a stop-gap post!

Happy Cheeseday, Mayzie

Mayzie had this great Idea. Cheeseday instead of Tuesday. So we thought we'd join in. This is Bella trying to start the celebration. We all think Cheeseday is a great idea, but she didn't want to wait. So Happy Cheese day everyone! ( We even got a little cheese.)

This is what I'm talkin' about

Look at this cat! Does he look like someone's sweet little pussycat? You betcha he doesn't.
Reminds me of Basil Fawlty, "cuddle that and you'll never play the guitar again."

There it goes, disappearing into the drains, back into the underworld. I mean he's in the drains, the sewer. Yuck! Some of those pipes even go under my house. He could be crawling under my floor. Those pipes could be connected to our........where are these thoughts coming from. Double yuck......I'm feeling a bit queasy.....maybe I should lay down.

A beautiful day

Today was such a beautiful day, we went for a long walk on the cycleway near our river. It was Bella's first time there. We only come here in Autumn and Winter because of snakes. We have two common venomous types in the area and know a few dogs who were helped over the Rainbow Bridge by them. So we go when the snakies are asleep. (We hope). But this isn't the Rainbow Bridge, it just goes over a creek.
Bella leads the way. Kendra and I are still reading the pee-mail.

Here we are....follow the yellow brick road...(sic). For once Kendra is up with us. Usually, she is way behind bringing up the rear.
This little Red-rumped parrot was out enjoying the day, too.
There was loads of things to sniff in the Autumn leaves.
Then we got to the river. This is Bella. She's a keen bird watcher and there were some water birds out there.

I went in for a paddle, but Bella didn't want to get wet at all. She just watched.

There were huge flocks of galahs and cockatoos flying around screeching. They're VERY loud.
Kendra didn't want to leave. She just loved looking at the river.
These are only a few of the galahs in a huge tree.

On the way back to the car, we stopped for a look on the little bridge. The picnic area by the car was full of people having a sausage sizzle. I found a sausage on the ground. It was very hot, but I didn't let that stop me. I did not share and ate the whole thing.

Bella got covered in these hitchhiker things. (This is her pitiful scottie look.) They were very hard to get out of her coat, but they could have burrowed into her skin if left there. She a great time anyway.

Bella the Termite

We think Bella has stopped her destructive chewing. Nothing has been nibbled on for several weeks. Still, the bottom shelves are clear and items that may tempt her are put away. She started with shoes (expensive leather), paper things (library books), cardboard and then moved on to wood. It became her favourite.

Photo album in basket.
This is an early example of the move from cardboard to wood.

She managed to rip the dowling off in such a way that it could no longer be used.

Seen here admiring her adaptation of the dog brush
She ripped the wire side off.

And here she is, displaying her woodworking tools.
(Heh, heh, heh)
Good thing we love her!

Thanks

First of all, we'd like to send a huge thank you to Ginger and Buddy for giving us this terrific award. (Although we now feel we will need to add poetry and essays.) Now, we have to tell you seven things about ourselves.

1. We are three scottie career girls. We've never had nor will we have puppies.

2. Kendra is the oldest. She hates people and anything out of the ordinary. (We think she's Autistic.) She loves food and chasing her ball. She loves to chase it while dinner is being prepared.

3. I'm next, Daisy, I'm seven. I'm very out-going and friendly. I love to chase anything with a pulse: cats, especially, but I go after lizards, birds, bugs......it moves, I'm after it. I'm very curious about everything. I love walks, riding in the car and meeting people.

4. Bella is the baby. She is a wild child and loves nothing better than to torment the rest of us. Bella teases the dogs next door and frogs. She likes to chase anything. Bella has the most expressive ears.

5. Kendra is the best guard dog. No one comes in the garden when she's around--even people she knows. She sounds very fierce, cannot be quietened AND will go for ankles if she has a chance. If we have visitors she has to be put in the bedroom.

6. Bella barks at everyone, too. She has been known to lunge at people walking past, and hates wheels. We're working on her and she is getting better. She greets other dogs by launching into a game of bitey face which startles them.

7. I am the nearly perfect dog. My big problem is my obsession with cats. They drive me nuts!

Now, we're supposed to recommend this award to others. That's VERY difficult because we love so many blogs AND we're unsure who has already received it. So if no one else has given you the award, consider it yours. There are just so many Blogs, we read and love. Departing from the path, we just want to thank ALL of You who read our posts and comment. We love reading your stories and seeing you in action! And we feel so special when you leave a comment.
So a huge Thank You to all of you, Daisy, Bella and Kendra. (And our typist, Alpha.)

Dogs about town

This morning Bella came on the morning coffee run with us. She's starting to get used to the car.
Because it was so early, about 7:30, we went for a walk in the town.

I checked out all the shops. The only one open was a cafe. It had the most delicious smells. But I wasn't allowed in.

Nope, no dog stuff here. Wait a minute. There's a dog just like me inside.
We had a great time. Plenty of good smells and some birds to chase.
Bella was a bit spooked by a man talking loudly on his mobile phone. Her tail is down.
You know, before Bella came, I didn't get to go on some of these cool walks...hmmmm. Not complaining, just sayin'.

Do Not Disturb

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
