A message from your CFATDU..

That's your Commissioners for all things Down Under.
 (In case you forgot.)
Our friends Stella and Rory have suggested that we the CFATDU have a few posts about language differences.
Rory (the lapdog BOL) and Stella
We thought it was a good suggestion.
As this is Superbowl Weekend in the USA,
We decided that it was the ideal time to tell you about one difference, well two.
First of all American Football is called Gridiron here to distinguish it from our football codes.  We have Australian Rules, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Soccer.
We also 'barrack' for our teams (Loudly).
You see, friends, in Australian slang, the word 'root'  means the same as 'screw' in American slang.

So while you're recovering from the Blogville sledding event, preparing your Superbowl parties. And root for your teams.....
Down here, we're getting a whole other mental picture!

Have a great day, if you're like our relatives there will be much shouting and giving advice to the coaches......but enjoy.
And root to hearts content.....BOL~

May both teams play well.
Nothing worse than a game that is over in the first half.

  1. Pawsome events this weekend guys. Have a super Saturday.
    Best wishes Molly

  2. Love learning about our differences thank you for sharing

  3. Chuckles - you should try living here with the language differences.....thongs are underwear here and not something you wear on your feet!!! Mind you, I am pretty sure I have seen some weirdos wearing thongs on their heads!

  4. Thanks for the language lesson this morning. Your furend Reilly (above) is too funny! Thongs.....

We love Superbowl Sunday. That means good snackies all around.

    Lily Belle & Muffin

  5. LOL! We will be careful using that root word for sure from now on. Have a great day.

  6. OH how FUN and Interesting to know the difference in what that word means, depending on where you live.

Ernie says to tell Roxy that HE plans to watch the PUPPY BOWL and PROMISES he will be CHEERING them on.. NO ROOTING. He may be a nut case butt he is Totally Devoted to his ROXY.

PeeS... is Bella still trying to get her... Calendar Guy???

  7. I love the language lesson. Barrack is what we call our president. I don't like to watch gridiron but I like to eat the food that falls on the floor.

  8. Thanks for the great language lesson! Sorry if we've left you with a bad mental image with our last few posts:)

  9. BOL! That is so funny! We have noticed a few interesting things about word differences too. Makes for some interesting conversations!!

    Your Pals,

    Murphy & Stanley

  10. Now I can speak 'straylian. Some here want barack to get rooted.

  11. Very educational this week girls. Meanwhile, in the UK it's all eyes on the rugby union. England versus Scotland this afternoon. I have warned Gail not to celebrate too loudly when England score at try...
    Toodle pip!
    Bertie ('rooting' for Scotland...)

  12. You 3 look fantastic on your sled. See you at the bottom of the hill.
We will be eating snacks on Super Bowl Sunday and watching the halftime show and commercials. Who is playing again?

    Wyatt and Stanzie

  13. Thanks for the language lesson girls. That is one I had never heard of.

  14. Thanks for lessons! That's pretty funny! We are not big Gridiron fans in our house, but we usually watch the Superbowl for fun!

    Your pal, Pip

  15. C-FAT-DU
OMDs Daisy, Bella and Roxy we love love love your official title acronym!!
I cannot tell you how happy I was that you love ladies at C-FAT-DU were able to cool your bodies in the sledding event today.
Thanks for the language lesson. Sometimes the translation is pretty dog gone funny.
Mom had an interesting conversation may years ago with a British grad student about the word
'shag'. Shag is the name of a dance BUT not in the UK
    Hugs madi

  16. Wow, that's BOL funny! Gosh, we sure could give each other the wrong mental pictures. BWAR HAR HAR Gridiron sounds so tough and strong. Perfect for our Super Bowl. Alas, my poor sad Steelers are out, so I guess I just hope the Ravens lose. We'll just watch Puppy Bowl and the commercials. Thanks for the chuckle today my furiends! See you on the slopes!
    Grr and Woof,
    Sarge, Extreme Sledder

  17. I did not know that! See, the internet is a valuable tool. Looking forward to future language lessons.

  18. And we're miserably watching Scotland fail in the rugby!
    Pip :-)

  19. Oh gosh...I better not tell my Aussie pals that I'm going to root around in the closet anymore BOL! Thanks for setting me straight...Did you all make it down the hill on your toboggan...Hope no one took a spill...Happy Sled Day!

  20. BOL BOL BOL it must be very confusing for youse when Americans say root :L
Ooooo you shout Barrack like Obamas name!!
    Love Milo :)

  21. Hi Commish. Thanks for clarifying a few things for us. We'll be more careful when we speak to our friends in Oz.
Morgan, Sebastian, the Porties, Syd and Mac

  22. We always get a smile on when we hear about "rooting" for your team!!

We only wish that we could see all the superbowl ads and not the game (booorrring!!) Don't want to offend - but we just don't "get" the game at all.

    Tail Wuggles, Rubie xxx

  23. Sometimes we feel like we want to screw screw screw the home team.

  24. BOL!!! You are too funny, you downunder'ers!

  25. But, surely there are times you want to "root" (for) a specific team. BWAAAAHAHAHA!! Thanks for the lessons. If I ever make it to your part of the world, I'm now better prepared!

  26. We love this! Now Dachshund Daddy is going to talk about "rooting"! :)

  27. We love these informative posts! Thanks for the laughs, girls!

    Love ya lots,
    Mitch and Molly

  28. Thanks for the lesson, commissioner! Very interesting,

  29. OoH my! :) Happy Sunday!

    Woofs and Licks,
    Maggie Mae and Max

  30. Howdy Girls, hehehe, that made a few friends chuckle. Hope we hear some more funny words and their meanings. Sorry we're late but mum's been a bit sickie and we've actually been away to the beach? OMD it was amazing. Posting soon about it. See ya girls. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
