It narrowly beat the White Ibis.--second place.
(Thought to have got the sympathy vote as they are annoying scavengers. )
It out-polled the Kookaburra in third place.
Coming in first as Bird of the Year.......
The Magpie.
Feathers..................Alfalfa...............Hoppy |
We think our three must have heard the news.
Alfalfa (has a small feather that stands up on the back of his head) |
Hoppy--he is beginning to use his left foot. If you look carefully,
there is a bump on his left leg.
|
Feathers--the back of his neck is white with a black/grey patch. |
(Hoppy is retaking his place as boss now that his leg is healing. Alfalfa is stepping aside
and Feathers has always been last. The black-grey neck feathers may indicate he is younger.)
haha the mama is a curious magpie too... so it is her year ;o)
ReplyDeleteCan you get the BBC Radio 4 'Tweet of the Day' Down Under? If so, I strongly recommend a listen to Michael Morpurgo on the Magpie: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09gfbbv
ReplyDeleteCheers! Gail.
Clever names. We likethe Little Rascals Alfafalfa name one because of the hair sticking up. Cute.
ReplyDeleteWhy those birds love you ~ feed anything and they keep coming back. Maybe Alfalfa could use a little dab will do you hair gel.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a friend

Hi hi hi! Ojo here! We do not have magpies here. We have ravens and crows, and they are very mischievous, and my person always tries to stay on their good side because they hold grudges for a very long time. I hear magpies are the same?
ReplyDeleteThe ibis we have here looks really different! You have some beautiful birdies there!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Congratulations to the Magpie. They are very pretty birds and I like that you know them personally.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all the birds! Lady use to know a kookaburra song - she is singing what she remembers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice standing the magpies have earned!!! That is quite the handsome trio - love their names:)
ReplyDeleteWoos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber
We like that you have named the Magpies that live near you. Congrats to them for coming in first place this year.
ReplyDeleteCrikey Bella Roxie and Dui ..... I think Maggies are the bird of the year too. We have a pair that visit us every day and guess what ..... they've got babies. I can't wait to chase them. It's so good to see you. Crikey I've missed you blokes!! I sent you my Christmas card but that Daemon bloke sent it right back at me saying that there was no such email so I'll wish you all and your Mum a very Merry Christmas here, aye?? Have a wonderful time and eat ICECREAM??????? Best wishes for the coming new year too.

Mom would love to visit Oz to see all the beautiful birds. We have a woodpecker that pounds on the windows when the feeder is empty. It gets everyone's attention.
