Chasing Birds

This is an Australian Raven. We call them crows and we think they're like cats. They tease us and make us run around until we're exhausted. Then they fly up our of reach and laugh at us!
(SHE forgot to put it in, and so it has to be first.)
Also, we got the pictures off the Internet because SHE's not very good at photographing birds.
We LOVE chasing birds! Because it's been raining so much and our walks are just business walks, we thought we'd share some of the birds in our area that we love to chase. Can you see the Ibis in the first picture?

This is what they look like close up. We have 5 schools around us, so these birds clean up spilled food that kids drop.

Sulphur-crested cockatoos are everywhere.

Galahs are great fun.

This is a pied currawong, also a good chasing bird.

These are called Apostle birds because they live in family groups--one breeding pair and their offspring. A family of them lives in a school near us. They always retreat behind the fence when we walk past.

Magpies are fun to chase except in Spring when they are nesting and swoop at anything they think is a threat.

Crested pigeons are always sunning themselves in our front yard. When they take off, their wings squeak.

We see these Eastern Rosellas occasionally, but there are smaller red-rumped parrots (we call them grass parrots) that are everywhere and good to chase.
I hope the weather improves soon, so we can get out there and chase birds....(and cats.)

  1. Wow! You have such beautiful birdies where you live! Our gram in Florida has Ibis but they never fly up here to visit us! We have pigeons but not with a fancy hat like that!

  2. What exotic bird you have in your neck of the woods. Beautiful. Perhaps you could send a few over to give the seagulls some much needed competition?

  8. Wow...you sure do have some pretty birdies where you live! Ours are kinda boring in comparison, really.

I likes to chase birds pretty good, too. But Brudder Ranger doesn't cuz he says, "Why bother? They're always going to get away since they can fly and we can't." I think maybe he's missing the point, don't you?

  13. Know just what you mean about Crows teasing! There are some that just fly out of reach as we approach then land again. It is infuriating! One day, we gonna catch one, that for sure!

You have some exotic looking birds where you live.
