A brush with fame....
Our cousin.....human (with thumbs),
wrote the new Smokey the Bear ads..........
the bear hug ones.

(We're ignoring the other 33 people who helped him make the ads.)
We think they're cute.

Naturally, our computer will not load them.
And the link thingy will not work either.
BUT,
if you see one on television, or google them, you can tell your friends that you know the K-9 cousins of the copywriter.
That should impress everyone.

Roxy's collars
Roxy is not allowed to wear her 'goin'-steady-with-Ernie' collar to the river.
She has to wear her old, pink collar.
Because she and the other girls play so wildly.
Her collar is a dirty brown by the time we come home.
Luckily a session in the washing machine makes it pink again.
but we don't think she cares.

Australian Camels
You DID read that correctly.
We're here to tell you about Australia's feral camels.
Bella Roxy Daisy |
Back in the 1800s, camels were imported into Australia from Arabia, India and Afghanistan to help explore the vast Australian Outback; and later, take supplies to people who lived there.
Most of the camels are dromedaries (one hump).
But there were a few Bactrian. (two humps)
When motor vehicles and trains came on the scene, the camels--about a thousand or so--were released into the wild.
They flourished and the current population is around the million mark and cause major problems for land owners.
(However, we're not going to discuss that here.)
In 1970, two mates in a pub--this seems to be a pattern here in Oz--made a bet as to whose camel would win a race.
And since then, there is an annual Camel Race in Alice Springs--in the red centre of the continent.
Tomorrow, July 13th will be the annual Lasseter's Cup Camel Race.
It's a fundraiser for the town and there are lots of family events, besides the camel races.
Racing camels are brought from all over and though this start looks fairly organised, no one knows exactly what the camels will do!
Some refuse to move, some run and stop, some turn around...
But that's part of the fun!
Maybe one of these years we'll go.

All that work....
You know how we like to stand watch.
To protect our house from cats, strange dogs, birds...postmen...delivery men...and the milko....strange people....and...well you get the idea.
We made this great surveillance post. Got rid of all the grass and weeds, and dug a couple of nice resting holes.
And when it rained recently, it became a lovely water feature for our garden.
BUT
Did SHE appreciate all our hard work?
Our protection?
NO!!
She mulched it!!!
Ingrate!

#@!* Bella
Bella, who cannot walk past a puddle......
always rides behind the passenger seat on the floor--her choice.
Except today......
When she crawled through the console area..
Here, have a closer look!
SHE wonders if The Pet Bloggers Mall has a used scottie section!

Foggy Morning
We went to the river this morning. Look at the fog!
The trees along the river were ghosty.
But the other side of the track had brilliant blue skies.
The Cockatoos were enjoying the sun's warmth after a cold night.
A couple of Galahs joined them. All were making a loud, noisy racket!
We were first there, so we headed along the track.
You can see how the fog is hanging around the river side.
This is HER favourite old tree.
This is a close-up.
Now we're on the opposite side of the Reserve. Nice and clear.
It was still a bit foggy when we got back around to the river.
But our friends were there and it was time to play!
