The Australian Salute........

AND HBO Words!!!!!

Us, Roxy, Daisy and Bella
If there is one....well billions, of blots in our little Paradise it's
FLIES!

The past few mornings they have been out with a vengence.
 They are persistent little buggers.
Now SHE's experienced flies all over the world, but none so far compares to the Aussie fly.  It is a national icon.

Flicking them away is known as the 'Australian Salute.'
(There's a humorous article you can read here
if you have time, we think you'll enjoy it.)

Now that summer is nearly here--this weekend--they have been annoying HER especially on our walks.  SHE uses some very colourful language because with THREE leads, keeping flies off HER face and buzzing around HER ears is difficult impossible.

That's why we had to have an older photo of us for this post.  Using the camera just isn't going to happen!

  1. Flies are to Australia what midges are to Scotland, I suspect.

  2. Blech! Tell her to get some couplers to make you all go together and then just have one lead! That's what Mrs. Master does.

  7. Oh my goodness - that's quite the fly problem! Honestly, that would probably make me consider wearing a "screen shirt". I bought one for use in the garden cause I love gardening, but get skeeved out by the bugs landing on me. It's a shirt made of screening material - it actually works great and you can use the hood the covers your entire face or not - completely up to you! :)

  11. Oh, the Momster so agrees with HER. Do you have access to Avon products - the Skin So Soft lotions are supposed to be good insect repellents.

  12. We had them really badly when we lived in Alaska, and I'll bet SHE may agree about the ones in Virginia too who are probably related to yours!

  13. She needs one of those hats..... with the corks hanging off little strings all round the brim. Or you can suggest she gets some personal insect repellant stuff to smear on her face and neck prior to the walk. We hate the little buggers.... mum hangs up a smelly bag which the flies love and fly into and then they Kark it! She thinks she is the reason why the fly population is much reduced round our place!

  15. oh my...mommy said she had experience with the Aussie Fly when she was studying in Perth (*whispering*: long time ago bol) but luckily she came home to Singapore throughout most of the summer. You guys better put on those hats with veils or don't pant during walks else the flies go into your mouth!!

  17. Oh Girls, we feel your pain. Mum and Dad are constantly swatting, swishing and generally moaning and swearing everytime we go walking. Mum was just the other day saying that the flies were the worst for years. Dad sprays himself with repellent and that still doesn't work! He swears he's going to get one of those hats with the nets around them. Has your mum ever swallowed one? Ewwwww, it's just so gross. Keep wagging those tails, it might keep some of the little buggars away. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  33. Oh boy do I hear you!! Every Summer She whines and moans about those flies - and I detest them! We have to cut back on Sunday breakfasts out because the flies are so bad and I snap at them - constantly - which ends up tiring me out too much! Aren't those flies just horrible!!! Not to mention the spiders .... she likes them but I'm a bit worried about those red back ones!!

    Happy saluting!!
