The Australian Salute........

AND HBO Words!!!!!

Us, Roxy, Daisy and Bella
If there is one....well billions, of blots in our little Paradise it's

The past few mornings they have been out with a vengence.
 They are persistent little buggers.
Now SHE's experienced flies all over the world, but none so far compares to the Aussie fly.  It is a national icon.

Flicking them away is known as the 'Australian Salute.'
(There's a humorous article you can read here
if you have time, we think you'll enjoy it.)

Now that summer is nearly here--this weekend--they have been annoying HER especially on our walks.  SHE uses some very colourful language because with THREE leads, keeping flies off HER face and buzzing around HER ears is difficult impossible.

That's why we had to have an older photo of us for this post.  Using the camera just isn't going to happen!

  1. Flies are to Australia what midges are to Scotland, I suspect.

  2. Blech! Tell her to get some couplers to make you all go together and then just have one lead! That's what Mrs. Master does.

  3. Ick, the momma hates flies!

  4. BOL momma would be doing the same, screaming HBO words. Those pests don't taste good either, nor do they feel right up your nose
    Benny & Lily

  5. Same here. July is cricket month. August is housefly month and September is stingy bitey bug month.

  6. Our Mom would be the same - she hates most flying bugs/birds/etc!!

Lilly, Piper, Ivy and The Sweet Buglets

  7. Oh my goodness - that's quite the fly problem! Honestly, that would probably make me consider wearing a "screen shirt". I bought one for use in the garden cause I love gardening, but get skeeved out by the bugs landing on me. It's a shirt made of screening material - it actually works great and you can use the hood the covers your entire face or not - completely up to you! :)

  8. Woof! Woof! Golden Laughs on the Lord of the Fly article. Golden Thanks for sharing. Mom does not like them either. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  9. Mom says she would rather have Aussie flied then Arkansas mosquito's - they are NASTY here !!!!

  10. You may keep those flies, thanks for the fly article, we love learning stuff from other places.

    Your Pals
    Susie & Bites

  11. Oh, the Momster so agrees with HER. Do you have access to Avon products - the Skin So Soft lotions are supposed to be good insect repellents.

Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  12. We had them really badly when we lived in Alaska, and I'll bet SHE may agree about the ones in Virginia too who are probably related to yours!

  13. She needs one of those hats..... with the corks hanging off little strings all round the brim. Or you can suggest she gets some personal insect repellant stuff to smear on her face and neck prior to the walk. We hate the little buggers.... mum hangs up a smelly bag which the flies love and fly into and then they Kark it! She thinks she is the reason why the fly population is much reduced round our place!

    Tail Wuggles, Rubie xxx

  14. I am very sorry for those rotten flies. I hope they stay away from now on.

  15. oh my...mommy said she had experience with the Aussie Fly when she was studying in Perth (*whispering*: long time ago bol) but luckily she came home to Singapore throughout most of the summer. You guys better put on those hats with veils or don't pant during walks else the flies go into your mouth!!

  16. YUK! Totally agrees with your Moms! HATE flies. Wells, you can tell your Moms to bring along her ipod, play some music and she can look like she's just doin' a new dance! I'm sure it would be the new craze.....AussieStyle...

  17. Oh Girls, we feel your pain. Mum and Dad are constantly swatting, swishing and generally moaning and swearing everytime we go walking. Mum was just the other day saying that the flies were the worst for years. Dad sprays himself with repellent and that still doesn't work! He swears he's going to get one of those hats with the nets around them. Has your mum ever swallowed one? Ewwwww, it's just so gross. Keep wagging those tails, it might keep some of the little buggars away. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  18. Yup flies and mosquitoes...we know aaaaall about 'em.
    Wally & Sammy

  19. This "Aussie Fly" sounds scary

  20. I chase them and eat them much to my peeps disgust. Have a terrific fly free Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

  21. Flies are no fun!!! Hope they go away soon

  22. That colorful language should take of those flies!

  23. Oh wow - I think you need to grow an extra arm, just to swish the fly swatter at those nasty pests!

  24. OMDs Daisy that was a funny article. My mom would probably throw her elbow out of joint with the Aussie Salute. She hates bugs especially ones who go buzzzzz in her face.
    Hugs Madi

  25. EEK! Get out the bug spray! Bol.

PeeS Sorry we are so far behind on your bloggy!

  26. Yuk! I hate flies too! I would just be running and screaming like a mad woman and Lord only knows where my hounds would be! LOL!

  27. OoH our mom hates flies too, especially when we tries to eats dem!

    Woofs and Licks,
    Maggie Mae and Max

  28. Oh it sounds like an awful pain!

    Nubbin wiggles & nose kisses,

  29. Your flies sound like what mom calls May flies. They're pesty and they bite and they're horrible! grrrrrrrrrrrrr

    Love ya lots,
    Mitch and Molly

  30. Salute Bawheheee ~ You need to carry a big fly swatter. Walk softly but carry a big stick ideology.
    Thanks for being a friend
    Sweet William The Scot

  31. I am sorry about the sassy flies. We don't like them either.

    Loveys Sasha

  32. Do you want my sister Stanzie to come over there and kick some fly butt? She's good...wonder if she can take down all the flies in Australia?

  33. Oh boy do I hear you!! Every Summer She whines and moans about those flies - and I detest them! We have to cut back on Sunday breakfasts out because the flies are so bad and I snap at them - constantly - which ends up tiring me out too much! Aren't those flies just horrible!!! Not to mention the spiders .... she likes them but I'm a bit worried about those red back ones!!

    Happy saluting!!
