Red wing parrot

We saw a red wing parrot and its mate eating in our tree on Sunday morning.  We've never seen one before.
Isn't it colourful?

Apparently, we're on the southern boundary of their known territory.
We hope to see them again.

No pictures for this story.....
The other day between rains, we went to the sports ground for a run. When we arrived, SHE spotted a dog not on a lead wearing a cone of shame.....sorry Ernie a cone of fame...with her owner.
Naturally, we weren't let off the leads.
Then, the dog raced over to us!  She only had three legs, but was so happy to see us that we had to be set free because we were  in a huge tangle.
Roxy and Lil--that's her name, started running all over the place.  Seems that Lil was wearing the cone because she'd recently been spayed!!!
That girl was wild.  She ran rings around Roxy.
(Bella and I just said 'hello' and started sniffing pee-mail.)
Roxy gave up first, but we think she was a bit frightened by the cone and being rammed with it.
No quiet recovery for that girl!

Dead Bird!!!

It's a bit hard to see.  But it's a dead bird. IN the lounge room on the CARPET!

Some doggie brought it in last night.
As you know Bella has been known to kill baby birds, but she leaves them where they lie.
I, Daisy, don't bother dead birds.
Roxy is known to carry around or at least tries to carry around any dead bird she comes across on our walks.

You be the judge.

Night Watch

The people who live across from us go out every morning and night to leave food at various places around town for the feral cats.  We know a few places where they leave food and sometimes we pick up a snack or two on our walks.

At the end of our street which is a cul-de-sac, there lives a sneaky black and white cat named Lucky.  We usually see Lucky sleeping on the chairs outside his family's house, or in the driveways of the houses near-by.
He's a useless cat....he never runs, and  ignores us...no matter how loud we yell at him.
Even though he has his own family...with three little girls who love us...he comes to the house across from us every night between 8:30 and 9:00 to have dinner.
 Every night, we watch........
and wait.......
And tell him to go home!!!

Today is.........

SHE's been playing around with photo effects.

Australia Day.....and it rained most of the day.
SHE abandoned us left us in the comfort of our house to sleep through the rain....(don't worry, we did get in long walk this morning between downpours.)
First SHE went to the official Australia Day festivities......Naturalisation of new citizens; bestowing  Service Awards to local people; eating sausages, lamingtons and damper.  And SHE got sopping wet...BOL!
Then, after drying out,  SHE went to a barbecue at our friend Millie's house and we weren't invited.
But, SHE did bring us some snags (sausages) and took us for a long run at the sports ground.
So all in all, it was a good day.
(Also, we were bribed with Lamb Delight to get the official photo!)
Happy Birthday, Australia....

An E-mail for Roxy

 I got a very important e-mail today.
I'm soooooooooooooooo excited.  It was from my brother and sister who have gone to live in Darwin--way up north.  They heard that I was adopted so they wanted to know all about me.
This is my sister Ruby.  We look a bit alike.
And my brother Judge.  He did have an R name because we were the R litter.
Here's a picture showing their differences in size.  Judge must have got more Rodesian Ridgeback genes.  He's much taller than Ruby or I.  She's built just like me. We're more bull terrier shaped.
(SHE says I have basset legs.)
They were adopted when they were 4 months old and I was adopted a month or so later.
There were 12 in our litter, and 7 were surrendered to the high kill shelter where we were rescued by our Foster Mum, Lea.

I think all the others have found their forever homes except little Roo who's still waiting.

I'm going to write back and send them some pictures of me.
We have the same smiley faces.

(Even Daisy and Bella don't know where their siblings are!)

After our evening walk

We went for our evening walk early tonight--about 6:30 pm.  It wasn't a long walk, but we were able to run around FREE. We got very hot.
When we got home, SHE wiped us down with a wet cloth and left out this tub filled with water.
Bella had a great time, sitting and pawing in it.  Everything was okay until she decided to......
roll in the garden between dips!!!

Weekend Bones

Our Saturday morning at the river wasn't a success this week.  We arrived early and there were strangers fishing on our beach.  So we ignored HER and went to investigate.  Roxy got a few licks of the boy's lunch--he didn't notice, I said hello and jumped in the water near the fishing lines and Roxy kept trying to kiss the man sitting on the bank baiting his hook.  Then Bella started to tell them very loudly that it was our beach and to go away.  SHE managed to catch us--we are suckers when it comes to food--apologising profusely and put on our leads.  So we had to have a walk on our leads and were put in the car.

As we left, we saw all of our friends arriving.  We were only there for about half an hour......sigh.

As if that weren't bad enough, it stormed.  We got lots of rain and thunder.  I barked at the thunder to make it go away, but it stayed around all night.

This morning, Sunday, we went on a 'dry walk'.  That means we have to stay on the road, no sniffing, just walking.

When we got home, we had to be brushed--even Roxy--and we were given our weekend bones.  Bella spent too much time looking for a private spot and had just settled down when the rain started bucketing down.  She got wet trying to decide what to do, but finally abandoned the bone and came inside, watching it from the door.
As soon as the rain stopped, she raced outside and got down to business.
Obviously the rain hadn't ruined the bone in the least.  She managed to get all the good bits off before it started raining again.
It's supposed to be a rainy week.

Friday the Thirteenth.......

 Our 500th Post........

And we're in trouble.....

This morning we went to the sports fields for a run.
Now in my defence, there was a cat--need I say more?
Anyway, I just tangled up all the leads.
The other two were much worse.  First Bella ran away.  She does that sometimes-- we're in a safe area.  She's afraid of people and noises, so we know she won't run far.
She wouldn't come, so we continued our walk and went around a building where SHE could see Bella but Bella couldn't see us.
If Bella can see us, she will continue to ignore any recall, but if she think she's alone, she comes running looking for us.  That's what happened today.

Then Roxy decided go off by herself.  She was chasing birds and then kept sniffing around ignoring us.  So we tried the same thing on her.
We moved out of her sight, and she realised she was all alone.  We watched her run around confused and then felt sorry for her, so we called her.  She was VERY relieved to see us.
But, SHE was cranky, so we didn't have a long walk...
Oh well, tomorrow is Saturday and that means a couple of hours at the river.
We DID get a good walk this evening, so SHE's forgiven us.
Have a fantastic weekend!!!!!

Some pup has been busy......

in the garden, ripping up the plastic and moving around mulch.
Wonder which little white pup it was....hmmmmm.

What are they watching?

Look at Roxy and Bella behind the gate.  You know what they're lookin' at?
Well, okay, Bella is more interested in the birds that made a nest in our air conditioner.

BUT
They are watching ME!!!
Because I got to explore the front yard WITHOUT a lead or even a collar while SHE mowed the grass.
That's because I'm trustworthy (unless there's a cat around.)
What do you think of that, friends?
And I was very good and didn't run off.

Our Peep's a Flake 2

Naturally, we have no pictorial evidence for this story--BUT it is true.

Last September SHE went to Virginia.  From our house that entails:  airport wait of 2 hours (plane was delayed) followed by an hour flight to Sydney....change of terminals, walking and bus ride....another couple hours wait, 14 hour flight..arrive in Los Angeles, customs, change of terminals another long walk, 3 hour wait, 5 hours to Virginia.

In short, a long time in transit.

The next day while shopping with her sister, she looked down and discovered she was wearing different coloured sandals!!!
She'd travelled half-way around the world without noticing!!!
Flaky or what???
Daisy, Roxy Bella

This is us so you remember what we look like.
