The days are getting milder, so yesterday we went for a mid-day walk along the cycleway towards the zoo. No camera, so these pictures are from last time.
Bella leading the way |
SHE nearly let me, Daisy, run free; but there were a lot of men mowing, whipper snippering and leaf blowing. The 'Catheads on Footpath' sign was back. We didn't see any cat heads though. And the men stopped all their noisy motors when we walked passed, which was nice.
Bella and Daisy looking towards the ravine |
Then suddenly, there it was..............a huge SNAKE......the first we've ever seen! SHE would have missed it, but Bella and I were on the job and chased that slithering thing. We might have got it if SHE hadn't put the brakes on our leads and yelled 'NO!!! BAD!!!!
Eastern Brown Snake courtesy of Internet As it was greyish, SHE thinks is might have been an Eastern Brown, they vary from light tan to black, |
Or...
Red-bellied blacksnake |
an Eastern Red-bellied Black. All she saw was the last metre of it disappearing into the ravine at about 87 thousand miles/hr.
Both are venomous!
Bella and I sure scared it !!!! (And Her, too.)
On the way back, we warned the workmen to be careful.
(Kendra never even noticed all the excitement.)
(Note from Wordless Wednesday. That chicken stick was mine. Kendra already had hers and Bella gets treats after me. We each got one.)
Don't ya hate it when you spot somethin' good to chase - and then your lead gets in the way of takin' off!! Bummer huh? Tail Wuggles, Rubie.
ReplyDeleteGood job protecting your mum, Bella and Daisey!! But PLEASE be careful!
ReplyDelete-Gizmo, who once got bitten by a rattlesnake. It wasn't fun.
You got to listen to your Mum! Those snakes are dangerous.
ReplyDeleteThe LAST meter of it! Aghhhh! Mama does NOT like snakes at all - especially poisonous ones, and most of yours are, we understand. Good job you and your mom worked so well together, you to alert her and her to get you the heck out of there. Are snakes more active going into Fall or something?
ReplyDeleteJed & Abby
spoooookieeeeeee snake... and a big one too.. spoookieeeee... good think SHE put a stop to your leads... snakes are most dangerous.

Nice to be able to take leisurely walks with the nice temps and sunny days. Yikes, a snake!!! Thunder would have been all over that slithering thing - he loves to toss them in the air - Mom yells at him too and luckily he drops them before anything bad happens. And most of the time they are just harmless grass snakes.
ReplyDeleteHope you all get out for another exciting walk.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Aiiiiiieeeeee you saw a SNAKE!!! And you didn't Freak OUT???? You girrrrls are sooooo very much BRAVE. YOUR MOM IS TOO!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have liked that walk much... beclaws of the SNAKE.
PeeS... I am glad that you explained about the Chicken Stick... I was afraid that some of you might have been cheated. hehehe
Brave girls and polite workmen.
ReplyDeleteThat had to be an exciting walk!! A snake! Stay away from them! I got bit by a cooperhead decades ago while trying to prevent my other dog, Alex, from racing toward it and getting bit. Luckily, it got me through heavy jeans and socks but I still had to go to the hospital for the rest of the day. Thank goodness Alex was fine!! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
ReplyDeleteYou girls are so brave! I would of screamed my head off if I would of saw a snake!
ReplyDeleteHello My Pretty Scottish Lassies ~ I try to leave you a post everyday, but for the want of making contact, my lovely lassies and the post being lost in the world of unknown, my heart is broken. Perhaps today it will appear.
ReplyDeleteLike in the Yates poem Brown Penny I have been whispering to you. Be safe from those slithery things. Sweet William The Scot
Sounds like it is a nice place. My oh my, those snakes are scary! I'm glad none of you got bitten by the snake. Your poor mom must have been traumatized by that.

ReplyDeleteOh, sorry, that was just my mom passing out from looking at that picture of a snake. What? Oh, don't worry. She'll be fine.
I'm glad you all were so brave to chase off that snake so it didn't hurt your momma. Snakes really are fun to chase. And it's even more fun when mom gets into the game and squeals and hops around and stuff. Heehee!
