I've just been reading an interesting article in the latest Dog's Life magazine.
Bella!
Gone thank heavens are the chewing and the accidents-in-the-house stages; but we now have a teenage dog who runs off when she can, ignores being called or directions--even more than the usual terrier character--makes her own rules and can be exasperating. She jumps up on furniture to steal food, tries to grab treats out of HER hand, pushes to the front.......the list goes on! Then, she suddenly becomes a puppy again, wanting cuddles or reassurance. Luckily, it doesn't last as long a human adolescence and she'll be 2 in March, so maybe we're at the end of this phase.
Any more adolescent dogs out there? Share.
Sounds like Bella needs to get entered into MangoMinster 2011. I believe you will see the Perfect CATagory fur her to enter!!!! I'm just sayin.
ReplyDeleteFranklin is just coming out of adolescence since he must be around two right now. Luckily for everyone Shar Pei aren't ever too bad when it comes to house manners. Actually, we kind of untrained him in a couple of areas. So the chewing is not bad and he doesn't have accidents in the house, but he is definitely just a kid when it comes to wanting to roughhouse and in how he runs and "hides" under the chair if you want to clean his ears or do anything at all that he won't love. And the jumping up on humans is not everyone's favorite thing. And chasing the kitties is one of his less popular activities - with everyone, not just the kitties. He's getting a little better about some of those things, though.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Bella sure does do a lot of the same things as our coon hound, Daisy, and she's a little over 2 yrs old! Daisy has recently bitten the toe and the pompoms of my long pink sweater slippers, taken a few bites out of Buster's (our cat) wicker basket and the list goes on and on! Perhaps Bella and Daisy should go to Charm School together! Do Charm Schools offer a 2 for 1 sale price if they register together?
ReplyDeleteOh great! My puppy is 8 months old and I was thinking things started to get easier when they got older! :P
ReplyDeleteHolly is now four years old and finally settling down into a regular rountine. The first three years were quite wild at times!! Lots of love, Debbie and mom

Bella, have you thought abouts entering MangoMinster in the Bad Sport category? What? Why did I suggest that? Um, no reason.

The teenage years are never easy! Enjoy them while they last, Bella!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
My boys will be 2 in April - and their behavior sounds just like Bella's. They listen (when they want to) and come (when they want to). I think part of that behavior is being an independent terrier, too!! Hang in there -
