Somethin' serious

Something serious and sad happened yesterday.
We went for our walk later in the day and walked along a route we haven't taken for a long time. That's to make the walk longer. Anyway, we were coming out of a quiet street, ready to walk along the busy street. When we heard some barking. There were two dogs sitting with their humans way across the street. They didn't have leads.
Suddenly, they rushed out towards us. Even their humans calling them made no difference. They ran onto the road just as two cars were coming in opposite directions. Of course, one of them got skittled. We could hear the loud thud and saw the dog rolling over on the road. How the other was missed is anyone's guess.
Luckily, the one that was hit, got up and ran back to the family. Hopefully, s/he wasn't too badly injured. The woman who hit the dog stopped. She was very upset. Everyone was upset. All because the dogs weren't on leads. No matter how well-mannered we are, you just don't know what we'll do. I mean, when Bella and I see a cat, THAT's ALL we see.
Just be sure you have your leads on, guys.

  2. How scary - we are on leads all the time and we live in the middle of a farm - we would just be off and running if we saw a squirrel or groundhog. We hope those doggies are OK and their peeps learned a lesson.

  3. oh how horrifying. that would be traumatizing to witness. i am so sorry about this. sometimes you wonder about all the choices you make and what would have happened if you chose a different route--and things like that--but it doesn't matter, they should have had leashes on. they failed to keep their dogs safe

  4. How terrifying! People don't realize how important it is to keep their dogs on leads - and safe! I'm so sorry you had to see that, and I hope the poor little doggy is okay.

  5. Hope the humans learned a valuable lesson. Duncan and Hamish are always on leads when we walk - otherwise they're in their fenced in back yard. Things happen too fast - they'd be off in an instant if they saw a rabbit, cat or another dog. Scary - hope the dog is ok.

  6. That is really sad. We have to ALWAYS be on leashes outside of the yard. You know us terriers, we'll chase anything....a leaf, paper...

  11. That's so sad and so unnecessary! Even the very best trained dog can be distracted. We always wear our leashes when we leave home.

  16. Hi girls - gosh, how awful and it could have been so much worse too!

Our FH and MH always make us wear our leads, unless we're at the nature reserve as it doesn't have any roads for miles. We often see doggies walking the streets here with their owners and they don't have leads on. Yup, at the time the doggies look fine and very well behaved, but we wonder what would happend if a squirrel suddenly appeared or a cat ran out or something like that.

Thanks for posting this story as a reminder to everyone to keep their doggies safe. Us doggies have minds of our own so we rely upon our humans to keep an eye on us.
